What? Deep Nature Connection Gathering and Summit Hike to Chinese Mountain. (ALL AGES WELCOME!!)

When? Weekend of December 14-15, 2019.

Where? Derek, Jane, Drew and Miles’s place on Quadra Island.

Why? To gather, share stories, practice core routines and generally celebrate the end of the year Solstice and the North Direction.

What to Bring? Foods for Saturday night potluck and Sunday Brunch. Sleeping bags. Sleeping mats, Outdoor clothing for the weather. Journals. Hearts. Minds. Spirits!

Where to Sleep? Bring a tent or crash on the floor in one of two wood heated buildings.

Details: On Saturday, we will arrive at the Chinese Mountain trail-head (see accompanying directions) at 11:15 am. People travelling from Campbell River can catch the 10:30 ferry to arrive on time. We will hike as a tribe, helping one another to reach the summit along the main trail. Estimated hiking time will be 3-4 hours. Afterwards we will all meet at Jane and Derek’s property to have an outdoor cooking fire, share food, tell stories, and play music. Space will be cleared indoors for sleeping in various areas, or tent sites can be used.

On Sunday, we will prepare a large pot of cooked oats and raisins. Everyone can bring their own foods for a potluck style brunch as you like. After brunch, everyone is welcome to come to Rebecca Spit for some games, walks, swimming, a fire, etc.

Directions to Chinese Mountain:

To hike the Chinese Mountains Trail and the Beeches Mountain Trail you drive north from Heriot Bay on Hyacinthe Bay Rd. for about five Kilometers. Go past the Walcan Road on the left then past the fish hatchery on your right, and about 100 meters past the fish hatchery you turn left at the trails signpost and drive up the small dirt road for about .5km to the car-park at the start of the Chinese and Beeches Mountains trails.

Turn off the main road at this signpost to access Beeches and Chinese Mountains trails.

Turn off to Chinese Mountain.

  1. Hi Derek, this looks like a great event! I noticed that the date in the title is different from the date in the post, which weekend will the hike take place? Hoping to join the fun but will have to hold off on confirming until closer to the date. Thanks for organizing this!!

    • Hey Chelsea. Thanks for mentioning this. I changed it to the 14/15 weekend. A few people have mentioned the next weekend is getting a bit close to other family events. If you decide you can make it, feel free to invite another family who might appreciate the nature connection element and gathering.
